Though employers will have until August 30, 2023 to conduct physical inspections of original documents and update Form I-9 if needed, you may be seeking additional guidance on employer obligations. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that the temporary COVID-19 accommodations which allowed for remote Form I-9 inspections finally ended on July 31st for employees whose documents were inspected remotely while the temporary policy was in effect.
Given the eventful year of I-9 updates, this session will discuss remediation regarding these deadlines and best practices for compliant and nondiscriminatory I-9 inspection and verification. We will also provide guidance on how to memorialize or make appropriate annotations on the I-9 form, the use of an authorized representatives for remote onboarding, and best practices for internal audits. There will be time for Q&A as well.
